Glycerol Esters of Tall Oil Rosin
Glycerol ester of tall oil rosin is a solid, glassy resin. It appears as irregularly shaped granules of light yellow color, transparent or containing fine air bubbles.
Solubility:
- Soluble in alcohol/benzene mixtures,
- Does not crystallize in alcohol/butyl acetate blends,
- Soluble in oils, gasoline, turpentine,
- Insoluble in water.
It is produced by esterification of molten rosin with glycerol or pentaerythritol. The resulting complex ester has a higher softening point and lower acid number than the original rosin.
