Oleic acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in various animal and vegetable fats and oils. It is an oily liquid ranging from light brown to dark brown, with a characteristic odor. Chemically, it is classified as a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid, abbreviated in lipid nomenclature as 18:1 cis-9.
It is an oil-like liquid, lighter than water, insoluble in water, but readily soluble in organic solvents.

Oleic acid and its esters are used in:

- In the production of flotation reagents.
