Solvents

A solvent is a substance that can dissolve other solid, liquid, or gaseous substances without chemically changing them. It is believed that solvents used on an industrial scale should have the following properties: be colorless and transparent, evaporate without residue, be resistant to chemicals, exhibit a neutral reaction, have a weak or pleasant odor, be anhydrous, have constant physical properties and low toxicity, and decompose in the environment.
