Turpentine is used for the following purposes:
It is a solvent for most natural resins;
It is used for diluting and thinning oil and varnish binders;
Turpentine dissolves rosin, rosin esters, bitumen, alkyd resins, glyphthalic varnishes, pentaphthalic varnishes, nitrocellulose, polystyrene, rubber crumb and many other organic compounds.
